Job Title: Data Center Engineer

Location: Washington DC (Onsite)

Job Type: Contract
Rate: $50/Hr. on C2C (Non Negotiable)

 

Required Activities

Communications and Link Support

  • Provide 1st Level and 2nd level network and communication link infrastructure support to the engineers, HQ IT and Country Offices (CO).  Troubleshooting activities include working with NOC to replace cables or GBICS/SFPs, also to include cleaning fiber connections.  Also included would be to test connections using a FLUKE meter and present results back to platform owners or the NOC.
  • Perform 1st and 2nd level troubleshooting of the Bank's Local Area Network (LAN) and Global Communications networks. This includes all aspects of the network infrastructure (switches, routers, specialized servers) as well as communication links infrastructure (VSAT, MPLS, IPL, Internet2, etc.).
  • Work and coordinate with technical support personnel, both internal and third-party vendors, to provide fast resolutions for network and communication link problems.
  • Escalate the problem promptly to ensure high availability of network devices that are part of the Bank's network.
  • Act as a point of contact for the engineers, HQ and Country Office Information Technology staff, in case of network and communication-link problems.
  • Provide implementation support for Global Communication projects, including acceptance testing of links in cooperation with the Country Offices' IT staff, vendors, and Engineers.
  • Connect equipment, run cabling in the Data Centers and major network Communication Rooms (NCR).
  • Configure switch ports, operate test equipment and use diagnostic software to perform individual tests as well as ongoing performance testing.
  • Create incident tickets, provide updates and follow-up.
  • Develop technical documentation, update technical troubleshooting procedures and Standard Operation procedures (SOP), and provide training.
  • Work closely with other technical professionals in a multicultural environment. 
  • Perform supervisory duties in ensuring that work performed during the shift adheres to the standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure the quality and timely update of all incident tickets.
  • Review and provide feedback to NOC technicians for quality improvement.

 

Data Center Provisioning

  • Develop and manage the data center equipment placement process for multiple data centers in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Keep all supporting groups advised of the provisioning plan.
  • Utilize and implement Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software to manage ongoing changes within the data center environment.

 

Data Center Asset Management

  • Perform data center asset management within the framework and guidelines of the Bank Group's IT asset management structure.
  • Periodically audit and direct the performance of audits of all data center IT assets per the guidelines as required.

 

Data Center Capacity Planning

  • Support capacity planning and coordinate resource allocation.
  • Provide capacity management reports on a regular basis.

 

Miscellaneous Data Center Support

  • Utilize knowledge of network topology, redundant power systems, structured cabling, HVAC systems relating to rack cooling, data center equipment enclosure requirements, and the physical data center layouts to perform and oversee equipment placement and planning for multiple data centers.
  • Build and maintain databases for use in generation of regular and ad-hoc queries, forms and reports.
