Big Data Engineer

Ideally the person needs to be local to the bay area and if not then needs to work PST hours through the life of the project.
Location: Sunnyvale, CA, United States
Description:
• 5+ years of experience in computer programming, software development or related
• Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role
• Strong programming experience in Hadoop, Python & Cloud
• 3+ years of experience in design, implementation, and support of solutions big data solution in Hadoop using Hive, Spark, HBase
• Great numerical and analytical skills
• Hands-on experience with SQL database design

2 rounds of interviews - 1 hour each
Budgeted until Jan 2023 end and will extend based on budget.


The manager needs someone that is very good with Hadoop, Big Table frameworks like Hive and Spark. They also need to be good with Python because they will be working with a team of Data scientists who write everything in Python so the code base needs to be the same. If they do not have Python then that is OK as long as they are strong in Java and willing to work in Python.

The candidates have to have a strong data engineering background where they have dealt with massive amounts of data, normalized it, moved it around, extracted data from tables, etc. so their SQL expertise also has to be very good.

Key Skills:
Hadoop - expert
Hive queries - expert
Spark - good
Python (preferred/Java - expert
SQL
GCP/Azure Preferred but AWS is also OK as long as the candidate picks up GCP/Azure very quickly
Overall data handling expertise
