POSITION--Senior Java Backend Developer

Location: Remote

Job Description-

Design, develop and maintain Teach For America’s Java and Javascript based software systems - 85%
- Develop using the following technologies / concepts: Spring boot RESTful APIs,
- Message-Based / Event Driven Architecture (JMS), Single Page Applications (SPAs) with
- UI frameworks such as Vue.js, React, Angular, Javascript, CSS, Cloud native
- development leveraging secure coding practices
- Design, develop using TFA’s standardized architecture practices
- Write unit tests, perform code analysis, automate in our CI/CD environment, implement
- observability
- Be an active influencer of evolving application architecture and platforms

Participate in all aspects of Teach For America’s agile software development cycle (including scrum processes, assessment, planning, design, development, testing, and support.) - 15%

Must Have:

5+ years of experience developing Java based RESTful services
5+ years of experience with Java, SQL, and relevant open-source frameworks (Spring framework, especially Spring Boot and Spring MVC / REST as well as Spring Data)
Experience building automated testing and deployment pipelines, code analysis tests, and other automation tasks in a CI/CD system (such as Jenkins)
Experience working with build systems and toolchains such as gradle, maven, node.js
Experience building and working with messaging and event driven applications (JMS, ActiveMQ, or similar)
Experience working in an agile development process (XP, Scrum, Kanban, etc)

Nice to Have:

Understanding single page application concepts and leveraging UI technologies to build them (React.js, Vue.js, Angular, etc.)
Confident as a full stack developer working with modern web frameworks (Vue.js, React, Angular)
Understanding of complex infrastructure (Load balancer, F5, CDNs, firewall, etc)
Must be a quick learner with strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly to technical and non-technical people verbally and in writing, including collaborating with business partners to devise solutions and troubleshoot issues
Ability to operate effectively, and with a sense of possibility, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven evironment
Willingness to learn new skills as technology needs evolve
Assisting with migrating our legacy Java Struts and JSF RichFaces to our newer SPA / Spring Boot, cloud- based platforms
Experience building applications to run in a cloud environment (Azure, AWS, etc) a plus
Experience with scripting languages such as Groovy or Python a plus
Experience with IaC (infrastructure as code) a plus
Improving code by applying functional programming techniques is a plus
