Position Overview:

 

Looking for a technologist who is well versed in python and scala. It would be really nice if someone has experience with AWS Glue. Axial is looking to advance their data processes. Right now, they are going through a large automation project. They are already underway with this project, but still have a ways to go. This person will help with the conversion and help automate this using Python and Glue. They have 50+ processes that need to be converted using best practices. Another project is an IP engine that runs on Scala. They have one resource working on this now and they need some additional support. After these initial projects are done this person will continue to help with the day to day data integration and ETL tasks. They will be working closely with the business so good customer service and communication skills are needed.

 

Must have skills:

    • 2-3 years of experience with Python and at least 6 months of hands-on experience with Scala besides having at least 7-10 years of overall data experience

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Design and develop ETL and data processing solutions using data integration tools, python scripts and AWS based services
  • Develop technical data processing specifications, design, develop, test, implement, and support optimal data solutions
  • Document data mappings, data dictionaries, processes, programs and solutions as per established standards for data governance
  • Integrate development with existing projects to maximize object reuse
  • Create, execute, and document unit test plans for ETL and data integration processes and programs
  • Work with cross-departmental teams such as analytics and engineering to assess and troubleshoot potential data quality issues at key intake points such as validating control totals at intake and then upon transformation, and transparently build lessons learned into future data quality assessments
  • Perform problem assessment, resolution and documentation in existing data processes, mapping and workflows in production
  • Troubleshoot data issues and defects to determine root cause
  • Performance tune databases, processes and SQL queries, and recommend and implement data process optimization and query tuning techniques
  • Develop and create transformation queries, views, and stored procedures for ETL processes and process automations
  • Adhere to Axial’s information security and privacy requirements

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or relevant field
  • Expertise in developing complex, legible and well-structured scripts and queries in SQL
  • 2+ years of experience development in Python or Scala
  • 4+ years of experience as an ETL developer with strong data architecture knowledge around data warehousing concepts, SQL development and optimization, and operational support models
  • Experience working with large data repositories and/or relational databases
  • Experience with ETL tools and frameworks such as Talend or AWS Glue preferred
  • Ability to consult with infrastructure to make recommendations on database settings and structure
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changes in both technology and business environments
  • Strong customer service and positive attitude
