Position Title: IT Security Consultant - Policies and Procedures Writer
Location of Project: 641 Lexington Avenue in NYC
Client: New York State Homes and Community Renewal
Duration: 4 Months+
 
 
Position Summary:
The IT Security Consultant (the “Consultant”), working with SONYMA’s Vice President of Operations, the Vice President of Compliance, the Agency’s IT Group and others, as assigned, will review existing IT security policies and procedures (“P&P”); make recommendations for improvements to P&P, which must incorporate all applicable rules and regulations, as well as industry enhancements to security; update and/or compose new P&P; and assist with responding to third-party security audit assessors. The Consultant must have knowledge of drafting and implementing of P&P related to the banking industry, cyber-security, as well as, but not limited to, knowledge of industry standards for receipt, distribution, purging and storage of personally identifiable information (PII).
 
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the position will be to:
  • Review existing P&P and identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and make recommendations;
  • Update existing or compose P&P to improve efficiency, effectiveness and that are compliant with applicable rules and regulations, as well as incorporate banking industry standards and ensure that policy is not contradictory to any departmental or Agency guidelines or objectives;
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners, review their recommendations related to P&P, and incorporate applicable principles, practices and solutions;
  • Document alignment of operational activities with process controls based on compliance and security policies;
  • Develop a list and structure (model) of policy documents based on required security controls;
  • Develop a timeline for the prioritized development of policy documents;
  • Log and monitor progress, and provide weekly updates to Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Compliance;
  • Develop and provide training materials for end users and/or any staff required to maintain the Agency’s IT security;
  • Maintain effective relationships with peers, vendors, and others; and
  • Any other reasonable functions or duties, as may be designated or assigned.
 
  •  
  • College degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Technical Writing, Business, or similar discipline;
  • Minimum of five years in the IT security field;
  • Minimum two years relevant technical writing experience delivering documentation for IT organization;
  • Knowledge of banking industry IT security regulations;
  • Knowledge in composing, maintaining and implementing IT security P&P for financial institutions and/or state housing finance agencies;
  • Knowledge of internal and external systems and ITS disciplines e.g.; infrastructure, servers, network databases, cloud-based environments (AWS), applications etc. as it relates to policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of NIST and PCI;
  • Superior analytical, oral and written communication skills, with ability to present technical concepts in easily understandable text and graphical representations;
  • Advanced skill level with MS Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, Access, Visio et al;
  • Knowledge of Java and SQL based applications;
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed; and
  • Ability to travel.
